| Plot |
| In the mid 1960's, a Czech immigrant, Selma Ježková (Björk), has moved to Washington with her son Gene (Vladica Kostic). Living in poverty, she rents a trailer on the home of a police officer (David Morse) and begins to live start her life over, working at a local factory. Selma however, has a degenerative genetic eye condition that is slowly causing her to go blind. She saves all her money to pay for an operation so her son will not suffer the same fate. To pass time, she spends it with her friend Kathy (Catherine Denueve) going to the cinema having Kathy describe the action to her. She daydreams a lot as she loses her sight and is eventually fired from her job because of it. When she finds out that her landlord has stolen all of her savings, it touches off a series of tragedies culminating in Selma being forced to choose between either saving herself or helping her son avoid her genetic fate. |
